- ➤ The Senate Education Committee sent Senate Bill 198 to the full Senate without recommendation after tense debates on banning cell phone use during school hours, except for emergencies and medical needs. The bill now awaits further consideration as local schools work on enforcing its policies. KBHB
- ➤ Rapid City Area Schools is working to cut school lunch debt to help students get nutritious meals while easing the financial burden on families. Officials said the district will roll out these measures across campuses soon. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Western Dakota Technical College held its annual Weld to Win competition on Feb. 5 where Sturgis Brown High School’s Gavin Werlinger won top welding honors (and a Build Dakota Scholarship) while competing against 80 students from across the Black Hills. KBHB
