  • Alli Moran, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Intergovernmental Affairs Officer, was named one of the 40 Under 40 Native Americans by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. She will be honored at the Reservation Economic Summit (March 23-26 at Caesars Palace) in Las Vegas.  Native Sun News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The South Dakota Hall of Fame announced at a press event in Chamberlain that sculptor Dale Lamphere and his wife, Jane Murphy, gifted the copyright for the Dignity of Earth & Sky image. The Hall will now protect the renowned artwork while approving future uses that honor its legacy.  Native Sun News
  • On a breezy February Saturday, Grandma Betty celebrated her 86th birthday at the historic Hotel Alex Johnson, a cherished hub for Lakota memories and community life. The family gathering marked a ceremonial return to a building that has long preserved Native culture.  Native Sun News

  • Little Wound High School senior Nikolas Yellow Boy will be featured in the Rising Star of the West contest on FOX at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 — his video commentary qualifies him as one of the semi-finalists available for viewer ratings until March 13.  Native Sun News
  • The South Dakota Mines Center for Alumni Relations and Advancement announced it received a record $120 million for its New Heights Capital Campaign — surpassing its $100 million goal — which will support future educational programs.  Rapid City Journal

  • A public comment period on exploratory uranium drilling in Craven Canyon is open with comments due by March 3 at 11:59 p.m., and a public hearing on the Chord Project is scheduled for March 18 — 22 to review potential environmental and cultural impacts on the sacred site.  Native Sun News
