ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Reptile Gardens updated locals on a fire that killed around 90 animals and expressed thanks for community support during this difficult time.  Rapid City Journal
  • Rapid City firefighters responded to a grassfire at Thompson Park — the burn covered about one acre and no injuries were reported.  Rapid City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black Hills Aerial Cup brings competitors from 15 aerial circus schools (from around 10 states) to Rapid City on Feb. 28 and March 1, where the public can enjoy high-flying feats in local venues.  Rapid City Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rapid City collected over $91.8 million in sales tax revenue in 2025, with December breaking records at over $10.2 million and a nearly 5% increase from 2024; Finance Director Daniel Ainslie said warm weather and key construction projects helped boost collections + support city capital improvements.  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Cheyenne River Youth Project hosted a winter camp for young women from Feb. 6-8 at its CRYP property, Wakanyeja Kin Wana Ku Pi (The Children Are Coming Home) near Bear Butte State Park as part of its Lakota Culture Internship, focusing on cultural identity and leadership. The participants toured local Native-led organizations in Rapid City.  Native Sun News

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the State A wrestling tournament in Sturgis, the heavy favorite Scoopers advanced 13 of 14 wrestlers to the quarterfinals, with one losing to Sioux Falls Lincoln — the team now leads with 44 points.  KBHB
  • Day one of the South Dakota State A and B Wrestling Tournament wrapped up in Sioux Falls today. The Sturgis Scoopers advanced eight wrestlers to the semifinals and led team points with 98.  KBHB
