CULTURE NEWS

  • South Dakota Mines students will perform this weekend at the Black Hills Symphony concert, showcasing engineering and musical talent (and creative instrument design) in an innovative community event.  Rapid City Journal
  • The Journey Museum unveiled a new exhibit on Rapid City history today. The exhibit highlights artifacts + stories that show why people have been drawn to the area for thousands of years, the museum's executive director said.  Rapid City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rapid City Fire Department transformed a small grass fire at Thompson Park into a proactive fuel reduction effort on Thursday; firefighters stopped flames at 10:45 a.m. on Meadowlark Road and implemented a controlled burn on about one acre, with no injuries reported.  KBHB
  • Starting Monday, Mar. 2, crews will begin a rockfall mitigation project on S.D. Highway 44 near Cleghorn Springs State Fish Hatchery, with motorists facing temporary lane closures and up to 15-minute delays while work finishes in July.  KBHB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Licensed counselor Bridget Williams led a group session on Feb. 21 at Red Horse Healing (in Rapid Valley) to show children safe ways to interact with therapy horses. The practice, often covered by insurance, helps ease trauma and behavioral challenges and is expanding with a new facility in Piedmont.  South Dakota News Watch

  • Today, six of Sturgis Brown's 14 boys wrestlers advanced to the State A championship matches in Sioux Falls, following wins by decision, tech falls & sudden victories in earlier rounds.  KBHB
