Good morning, Rapid City.
📰 Economy
Gas prices in South Dakota rose by 6.2 cents per gallon in the last week and now average $2.62, according to GasBuddy's survey (628 stations).
The difference between the lowest and highest prices was $1.15 per gallon.
🎓 Education
The House Education Committee postponed SB 198, a measure to ban student cell phone use in schools, to let local districts decide policies, with the vote (8-7) sending the bill to the 41st legislative day; a recall effort to amend it for charter schools failed (7-8).
Lawmakers are still weighing school funding proposals before a March 9 deadline while local educators urge a 3% mandated increase to prevent cuts—such as layoffs of instructional coaches and reductions in gifted programs—in the face of teacher shortages.
