- ➤ South Dakota Mines researchers turned corn stover into battery-grade carbon to boost lithium-sulfur batteries and supercapacitors. They produced their first batch on Christmas Eve 2025 and are now planning to scale up production by partnering with commercial buyers. KBHB

- ➤ A South Dakota Senate committee approved a bill that would direct the state to help pay meal costs for about 8% of students statewide. Lawmakers will review the plan in upcoming votes — a key step in moving the change forward. Rapid City Journal
