- ➤ Last year, the InterTribal Buffalo Council returned more than 1,500 buffalo to Tribal Nations such as the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and Rosebud Sioux Tribe as part of an effort to restore a keystone species for cultural and ecological renewal (supported by The Nature Conservancy and federal agencies). - ➤ A bill to cover student meal costs left committee and now heads to the Senate floor for debate — lawmakers will soon review its details to support student nutrition. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Corral Drive Elementary celebrated National Read Across America Day with a Dr. Seuss-themed PE class on March 2, marking the author’s birthday for students in a fun educational event. Rapid City Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Black Hills National Forest approved late Friday an exploratory drilling project by Pete Lien and Sons at Pe’ Sla, a sacred site and key drinking water source for Rapid City. Local groups urged citizens to contact the US Forest Service (Mystic District) to reverse the decision and prevent contamination. Native Sun News

- ➤ A new bill passed that empowers school boards to remove disruptive students, and the Secretary of Education said the measure is intentionally broad. Lawmakers expect the change to clarify discipline procedures statewide. Rapid City Journal
