- ➤ South Dakota lawmakers passed a $7.3 billion state budget for the fiscal year starting July 1 that gives a 1.25 percent raise for state workers, schools and community service groups – they made $70 million in cuts and service reductions as tougher financial times are expected. The bill now goes to Gov. Larry Rhoden for his review. KBHB
- ➤ A bill to add a poultry producer to the Animal Industry Board is waiting for Governor Larry Rhoden’s signature in Pierre—its approval will help state officials address the economic challenges from avian influenza outbreaks. Senator David Wheeler, who sponsors the bill, said that including a direct industry representative is key to managing the disease. KBHB
