ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Qury wildfire covers 7,200 acres (2 miles southeast of Custer) and is 2 percent contained, with snow slowing firefighters' efforts to control the blaze.  Rapid City Journal
  • On Sunday, firefighters battled the Qury Fire in Custer as crews worked to secure the 7,200-acre blaze with 2% containment. Rain + snow slowed mop-up and fireline work while temporary flight restrictions and select road closures remained in effect.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Black Hills State Yellow Jackets swept the Eagles on Saturday in a four-game series by scoring 49 runs and breaking the D2 record with 11 home runs, including a grand slam by Lily Simmons while posting strong pitching in a 13-11 win and an 8-0 shutout.  KBHB
  • State girls basketball tournaments ended Saturday, March 14 in local venues, with O’Gorman topping in Class AA, Lennox winning the Class A title for the first time since 1988, and Ethan claiming the Class B championship + standout performances included Sydney Terveen who scored 33 in the title game.  KBHB
  • Black Hills State University men’s basketball team advanced after a 67-64 victory over Lubbock Christian on Saturday at the Burg Center, thanks to standout performances by Cam Lowe and Amondo Miller Jr. The win propels the team into the second round.  KBHB
  • At Saturday night Girls State Basketball Tournaments, award winners were named for Spirit of Su and Spirit of Six in Classes AA, A, and B. Winners from Brandon Valley, Rapid City Stevens, Mahpiya Luta, and Bennett County were recognized for their achievements.  KBHB
