  • SoDak AutoHaus opened on March 17 at 1330 Deadwood Ave as a repair shop for modern and older European vehicles; mechanic Sven Osusky, with over 30 years of experience, said he and his wife will offer dealership-quality service at lower prices—treating customers like family and providing discounts for active duty military while planning a grand opening car show in September.  Rapid City Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Alexis Wounded, 26, pleaded guilty in December to voluntary manslaughter for fatally stabbing Roger Big Crow in April 2024 during an argument and was sentenced to nearly six years in prison, including five years and 10 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release, with prosecutors noting she was highly intoxicated at the time.  KBHB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The BLM plans to conduct prescribed burns near the Fort Meade Recreation Area when conditions allow to reduce hazardous fuels—covering about 500 acres near the Old Fort Meade VA Cemetery and VA Compound. Smoke may be visible along Interstate 90, State Highways 34 and 79 in Sturgis and firefighters will monitor the area.  KBHB
  • On March 20, Nature is Nonpartisan launched in Belle Fouche with Governor Rhoden and Mayor Randy Schmidt speaking, and the nonprofit aims to unite conservatives and liberals on conservation issues—focusing on common sense solutions that include rural communities. Founder Benji Backer said the organization will maintain an equal balance of views to help all Americans protect our natural spaces.  Rapid City Journal

  • Governor Larry Rhoden visited Black Hills State University yesterday as part of his Open for Opportunity Tour; he met with BHSU President Steve Elliott, staff, faculty, students and local leaders to review the university’s work with Sanford Underground Research Lab. He said the state’s potential lies in expanding international trade and value added agriculture projects — ideas he plans to discuss further statewide.  KBHB
  • Rapid City is weighing new short-term rental rules after Airbnb listings increased 75% in the past three years—a survey shows most residents support a simple licensing and registration system. Local property owners and officials say patchwork rules in nearby communities make it hard to balance tourist stays with local housing, and an advisory committee will offer its recommendation this spring.  South Dakota News Watch
