COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the HomeSlice Group launched its free digital newspaper The Rapid City Post—serving as a major local news source for the Black Hills region and partnering with outlets such as KBHB Radio News and Fox Sports Rapid City. The group will add a printed version, podcasts and premium audio and video content in the future.  KBHB

CRIME NEWS

  • Rapid City law enforcement are involved in a standoff at a home near South Canyon Road and Pluma Drive after receiving a call about an intruder just before 10:00 a.m. (no further details have been released) as the situation unfolds today.  KBHB
  • Rapid City Police have classified the death of 64-year-old Jerry Evans — found under the I-190 bridge earlier this week — as a homicide following an autopsy that revealed significant blunt-force trauma, and investigators continue gathering evidence from multiple agencies.  KBHB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Rapid City received a $150,000 donation for the restoration of the Valentine McGillycuddy House—once home to the city’s first surgeon—and to convert it into a medical museum.  Rapid City Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Rapid City reported that 3.9 million visitors spent $504 million in 2024—up from 3.8 million visitors and $479 million in 2023. The report found that tourism supported 7,613 jobs and generated nearly $53.7 million in local taxes through spending on food, lodging, retail, transportation and recreation.  Rapid City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A donor made a $115,000 donation through the Black Hills Area Community Foundation to Meade School District for school meals — the district said the funds will support its school lunch matching program.  Rapid City Journal
  • STURGIS, S.D. — The Meade 46-1 School Board meets today at 5:00 p.m. at the Williams Administration Building for a Study Session and Work Retreat to discuss strategic planning with Dr. Gayle Juneau Butler, review capital outlay including Senate Bill 216, and hold an executive session on a legal issue.  KBHB
