  • Rapid City Public Library hosts dinosaur exhibits on loan from the Black Hills Institute, featuring a Denversaurus, T-rex skull and neck, and a Brachiosaurus. Visitors can view these rare prehistoric artifacts now.  Rapid City Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AARP's report shows South Dakota family caregivers add $2.5 billion in unpaid labor annually to help older adults stay home. It notes 150,000 caregivers provide 106 million hours of care and that AARP South Dakota is working to improve local support services (Valuing the Invaluable 2026).  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Whitewood Elementary principal Britt Porterfield resigned from the Meade 46-1 School District after serving since 2019 and leading the Homeschool Connection Program amid budget challenges that drew strong community support.  KBHB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire burned 43 acres in Pennington County as local crews worked to monitor the incident with public safety in mind. Officials said they will update the community if the situation changes.  Rapid City Journal
  • The latest drought monitor report shows that Meade County and most of southern areas have entered moderate drought — severe conditions affect southern Pennington, Custer and Fall River counties. Wildfires struck these areas this spring and northern parts remain unaffected.  KBHB
