  • BankWest hired Keith Robbennolt as its new Business Development Officer in Rapid City. With over 25 years in financial services and 20 years in commercial lending, he is set to support local business owners from his office at 311 Omaha St — his previous board roles at Black Hills Works Foundation and United Way highlight his commitment to the community.  KBHB

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal investigators shut down a cocaine ring that smuggled over 11 pounds of the drug into the state — seven people were indicted and officers seized $250,000 in cash, four guns, two Chevy Camaros and a pickup truck at the federal courthouse in Rapid City.  KELOLAND
  • Airman Quinterius Charles Chappelle, 24, from Ellsworth Air Force base pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges for the August 2024 killing of Sahela Toka Win Sangrait—her body was found in February near Hill City—when a March 28 hearing ruled he remain detained pending trial.  KELOLAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • Registration is now open for the 2025 Bearing Witness Black Hills Retreat, which will be held from July 15 to 20 at Elk Mountain and Hot Springs; Manny Iron Hawk and Renee Iron Hawk, respected Lakota elders, will host sessions that include visits to Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave, and Bear Butte to help heal intergenerational wounds. Participants are encouraged to sign up soon—spaces are limited.  Native Sun News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Feeding South Dakota is bracing for federal budget cuts to the USDA as donations decline and demand for food has grown by 15—20% each year amid pending funding decisions next week. The organization said a $1.2 million grant will end in June and that any cuts to food assistance programs may further strain its resources.  KELOLAND
