ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire near Buffalo Gap has burned about 6,000 acres and is now 40% contained as firefighters work to secure the area, with officials still investigating the cause.  Rapid City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In late March, USDA ended a program that helped new and Native American farmers in Lower Brule get money and advice to start farming. Tribal leaders say the cut makes it harder for local growers to access funds they need to build their businesses & support their communities.  South Dakota News Watch

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Rapid City Stevens won back-to-back prep tennis matches by sweeping Brookings and SF Washington 9-0, showing strong performance on the court using hard work and skill.  KBHB
  • Rapid City Post 22 opened its legion season today by sweeping Sheridan—winning 12-2 and 12-1 in a twin bill. The Hardhats built an 8-run burst in the fourth inning of game one and scored 10 runs in the third inning of game two.  KBHB
  • Yesterday, the Yellow Jackets nearly upset the number nine team in a doubleheader game as they held a four-run lead with only four outs but lost when Christian’s late surge ended their hopes, dropping them in all four games of the series.  KBHB
  • South Dakota Mines Golf will host the Texas Roadhouse Spring Invite at the Golf Club at Red Rock (today and tomorrow, Apr. 13-14).  KBHB
  • Area athletes competed in the Queen City Classic Track and Field Meet in Spearfish last Friday, where RC Central edged Stevens by 1.5 points - clinching the boys title while Stevens won the girls title with 165.5 points. Key winners included Fox Pendegraft in the 100 meters and Nolan Long in the 200.  KBHB
