EDUCATION NEWS

  • A trio of St. Thomas More students won the western South Dakota Civics Bee on Saturday, Apr. 18 at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City — they were among 18 West River eighth graders who competed in the contest.  Rapid City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medical marijuana card approvals in South Dakota jumped 62 percent last year, reaching nearly 19,000 patients as state lawmakers continue debating the oversight committee's role (proposals aim to cut an extra layer of regulation).  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Dakota Mines Golf will compete in the RMAC Championships from today through Tuesday in Boulder City, Nevada.  KBHB
  • The Rapid City Rush rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Tahoe Knight Monsters 4-3 in overtime at the Monument Ice Arena on Friday. Ryan Wagner scored the sudden-death goal — and the team now gears up for tomorrow’s pregame ceremony celebrating Garrett Klotz’s 700th game.  KBHB
  • BHSU ended its two-game series losing streak on April 18 with wins in both games against the Mountain Lions, tying the home run record with two homers. The team pulled off a crucial comeback in game two to boost its RMAC Tournament hopes.  KBHB
  • Black Hills State University track teams set school records and earned top-10 finishes in southern California. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Evie Boyd and Evan Smith broke marks while Emma Hofmeister and Ava Allen delivered top-10 times at the Leopard Invitational (record-setting performances cemented the team’s strong showing).  KBHB
  • After a down weekend at the Texas Roadhouse Invite, the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets will head to Boulder City to compete in the RMAC Women’s Golf Championships — today to Tuesday — aiming to improve on last year’s tenth-place finish.  KBHB
