EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ High school students in the Black Hills attended an IceCube masterclass to study data from the South Pole's neutrino observatory — a program that included lectures and hands-on analysis — while listening to physics experts. - ➤ Rapid City Area Schools said Lakota language and cultural lessons will continue after a U.S. Department of Education letter warned against DEI initiatives—Indian Education Director Ira Taken Alive said that these lessons are protected as treaty rights and not part of a DEI program. - ➤ A federal judge on Friday issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the government from deporting a South Dakota School of Mines student — Priya Saxena — and restored her F-1 visa after it was revoked based on a 2021 misdemeanor. - ➤ The state library said it will not renew interlibrary courier services (due to funding cuts) after contracts expire and this change could affect interlibrary loan programs in Rapid City and the Black Hills (libraries may experience service modifications). Rapid City Journal
