- ➤ A Rapid City man was sentenced for vehicular homicide in a 2021 Christmas Day crash—Faron Mesteth, 29, appeared for sentencing before Judge Matthew Brown at Pennington County Court. Rapid City Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota's unemployment rate dropped to 1.8% in March — down a tenth of a point from February and among the nation's lowest — while the labor force grew by 700 to 492,900 with 9,100 job seekers remaining. The report noted gains in health care, construction, and government jobs and will provide more local details on April 25. KBHB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota’s Public Utility Commission denied Summit Carbon Solutions’ permit for its $8.9 billion carbon capture pipeline Tuesday—lawmakers’ eminent domain ban made the planned route unworkable. Summit said it will refile its application with a revised route to address concerns from landowners and ethanol plant partners. KBHB

- ➤ On Tuesday night at City Hall, the Vision Fund Citizen Committee heard nine project presentations asking for between $500,000 and $3.5 million for projects such as park updates, sports field improvements, and fire station upgrades — the hearings continue today and Friday with $12 million available from a total request of $74.2 million. - ➤ Six Rapid City Council candidates from three contested wards appeared Tuesday at a forum hosted by South Dakota Citizens for Liberty at Canyon Lake Activity Center where about 80 residents learned of discussions on budget concerns, public safety and community development. The candidates shared their plans—ranging from efficient spending to economic growth—with backgrounds including a doctor, a real estate agent and a nonprofit leader to inform voters for upcoming elections.
