- ➤ The winter season in the northern Black Hills was one of the driest on record, which meant less snow for skiing and snowmobiling. Terry Peak (a local resort) spent 6.5 million dollars to boost its snowmaking system, helping to keep operations running while several events were canceled. KBHB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four school districts received Workforce Education Grants from the South Dakota Department of Education this week to boost hands-on career and technical programs; Frederick (Agriculture: $55,142), Hill City (Manufacturing: $18,229), Rapid City (Culinary Arts: $223,830) and Spearfish (Manufacturing: $43,175) will use the funding for program expansions. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents evacuated due to a wildfire in Pennington County returned to their homes before noon Thursday after firefighters contained 10 percent of the Murphy Fire, which burned 423 acres last night, while crews battled active Red Stone (100 acres) and Bauman (1,000 acres) fires in Jackson County. - ➤ Pennington County Drug Court is set to hold a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, April 29 at 3 p.m. MDT in Courtroom C2 (third floor) of the Pennington County Courthouse at 315 St. Joseph St., where the public can join the celebration and watch the live stream online. Native Sun News

- ➤ Monument Health Foundation received a $70,000 grant from Black Hills Community Bank earlier this week to fund a $30,000 outdoor therapeutic space at its Behavioral Health Center in Rapid City — the remaining funds will support its Children’s Campaign and Spearfish Expansion Campaign. KBHB
