Indigenous advocates and families gathered at the recent Red Dress Gala in Rapid City to remember those lost to disproportionate violence against Native people—77 Indigenous people are reported missing as of May 1.

They shared personal grief and called on local authorities to increase support and action to address this ongoing crisis.

Rapid City police reported 10 DUI arrests from Friday through Sunday as weather improved, which is higher than the 8 and 5 recorded on the previous weekends—figures show a rising trend in DUI incidents.

Rapid City man Derrek Brave Heart was sentenced to 30 years in prison by Judge Joshua Hendrickson on Monday for fatally shooting Jonathan Odom outside a Family Dollar parking lot on Haines Avenue; a Pennington County jury found him guilty of first-degree manslaughter in March after rejecting his claim of self-defense.
