- ➤ A Rapid City man was sentenced for aggravated assault after he attempted to use a knife on a victim while high on methamphetamine & prosecutors explained the incident. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ A Rapid City man was sentenced for firing a (9mm Glock) handgun into an occupied vehicle, a prosecutor said in court. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ A 19-year-old Rapid City man pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm by a prohibited person after a high-speed chase in a stolen car last April — his sentence is two years and 10 months in federal prison with three years of supervised release. KBHB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rapid City Area Schools finished contract negotiations—boosting the starting salary for veteran teachers who return after leaving the district. Rapid City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city council voted today to continue their agreement to redevelop the St. Joseph parking lot into a tech district. Supporters said the plan would create a walkable live, work, play area—while opponents urged that the property be put out to bid for multiple projects. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Hundreds gathered Wednesday in Pierre for the South Dakota Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony, where Gov. Larry Rhoden placed a wreath and Police Chief Don Hedrick paid tribute to fallen officers (like Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Kenneth Prorok, killed on February 2, 2024). Dozens of officers joined a procession from the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Center to Capitol Lake before a service at Lutheran Memorial Church. KELOLAND
- ➤ State lawmakers reinstated the ban on spreading ashes and burying human remains at Bear Butte State Park after the rule was accidentally lifted in 2019—Bear Butte is a sacred site to indigenous peoples and the rule was reimposed following consultations with tribal leaders. KBHB
