EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WDTC honored 22 students for their academic excellence and leadership at a May 9 banquet held in the college's Event Center. The college will host its 57th commencement at 10 a.m. on May 17 at Monument Ice Arena—officials Tiffany Howe and Justin Jutting led the event. KBHB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota leads the nation in conservation with over seven million acres enrolled in the USDA Conservation Stewardship Program—this mapping tool and a national poll show strong support among local producers for more long-term funding. Congress is debating the next Farm Bill, which may change future funding for these conservation projects. KBHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Dakota Wing of Civil Air Patrol received the National Commander’s Unit Citation award at a joint conference in Spearfish for key missions in 2024 & over 500 members will proudly display the award on their uniforms. This honor recognizes support for emergency services and partnerships with agencies like the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the 89th Attack Squadron. KBHB
- ➤ Pennington County is hosting listening sessions to gather public input on a potential four-day workweek and shape future county services—using a responsive and data-driven approach to meet community needs. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Wyatt Hansen was promoted to brigadier general during a ceremony at Camp Rapid as he prepares to assume a new role with Joint Force Headquarters. He has served in the South Dakota Army National Guard for over 25 years—marking a significant milestone in his long military career. KBHB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, Monument Health started building a new campus measuring 16,750 square feet along the Interstate 90 corridor to serve as a free-standing Emergency Department (with lab services, imaging, CT scan, ambulance garage and exam rooms) in Rapid City. The campus is scheduled to finish in summer 2026 and may add more inpatient rooms in the future. KBHB
