COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Club for Boys in Rapid City will offer a free Summer Meal Program for kids and teens from Tuesday, May 26 to Aug. 7, providing an opportunity for families to access meals during the summer.  Rapid City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeremiah Murphy, a photographer and retired lobbyist from Rapid City, has spent 15 years documenting South Dakota’s Indian rodeos in remote areas, capturing perilous rides and the community that cheers on riders. His work recently featured in The New Yorker shows a vivid record of a fading tradition.  KBHB
  • Author Jolene Pisel released her new children’s book Little Tractor Brown, which tells the farm-based story of a small tractor learning its unique role on Farmer Frank’s farm (inspired by Pisel’s own farming background). The book helps young readers overcome challenges by recognizing their intrinsic worth.  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its 2026 First Team Academic All-RMAC and Academic Honor Roll selections for softball Wednesday afternoon; Black Hills State University’s Audrey Fouras and Paige Goodell earned first team honors while six others made the honor roll.  KBHB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews battled the Buffalo Fire on Wednesday night in the East Gate/Wildlife Loop area of Custer State Park. The fire burned about 2 acres of grass and timber, and no evacuations were ordered.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Rhoden’s campaign demanded on May 8 that local broadcasters remove attack ads falsely claiming he raised taxes and fees — the ads aired on TV in Rapid City and Sioux Falls, and his team filed an FCC complaint warning further action if they remained.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lead hosted its annual Mountain West Track and Field meet on Tuesday with area athletes competing. Westin Klippenstein of Hot Springs won the 100 and 200 dashes + athletes from Belle Fourche and Hot Springs also claimed wins in relay, field and distance events.  KBHB
  • The Rapid City Stevens Raiders tennis team won five of six singles matches to beat St Thomas More 6-3 in a Tuesday match at Parkview. The team built critical momentum for upcoming competitions.  KBHB
