COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Memorial Day services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. — the event will feature guest speakers, wreath-laying and a rifle salute — and a Native American Commemoration is set for 1:00 p.m. by local tribes and the American Legion. KBHB
- ➤ Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity has been awarded an $87K grant — funds that will support affordable housing projects and community development in the area. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Rapid City residents gathered for a community photo time capsule on Friday, May 22, at Main Street Square. A copy of the snapshot will be preserved until 2076 for future generations. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Wendy Pitlick (award-winning reporter) started Hope’s Kitchen in Sturgis to offer free hot meals to local residents. Local businesses and volunteers support the program, which serves meals on Saturdays and invites community members to volunteer. KBHB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota Mines research team is working with first-graders (exploring engineering) to create new STEM toys that reimagine early learning methods. The project will bring hands-on experiences to classrooms and may spark local student curiosity. Rapid City Journal

- ➤ On Thursday, Sturgis Scooper lost both softball games to Sioux Falls teams, while Rapid City Stevens split its contests with an 8-1 win and a 6-0 loss against Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Brandon Valley. Scooper will play again today against Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Brandon Valley. KBHB
- ➤ The 2026 SDHSAA State (AA) Boys State Tennis Tournament began on May 21 in Rapid City as teams competed in day one matches. Updated standings placed O’Gorman at the top with a score of 344 as results continued to roll in. KBHB
