- ➤ The Rapid City Fire Department held its annual Fill the Boot fundraising drive Friday, May 23—designed to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association—in which local residents donated to help the cause. Rapid City Journal

- ➤ A new downtown Rapid City bookstore will open on May 31 — its debut is set to add another retail option to the city center. Rapid City Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities arrested 26-year-old Ezra Bald Eagle and 25-year-old Mariah Cross in Rapid City for drug charges — including possession and distribution — after a traffic stop uncovered over 3 ounces of fentanyl powder, 3500 pills and under a pound of meth during the investigation by the Unified Narcotic Enforcement Team. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden announced—flags will be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until noon on Memorial Day—and after noon they will be raised to full-staff until sunset. KELOLAND
- ➤ South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden and Attorney General Marty Jackley returned from border tours in Texas and Arizona and now propose to let state agencies help enforce ICE immigration laws. Rhoden sent a letter requesting a 287 G for the Highway Patrol + Jackley authorized DCI help after its agents complete 40 hours of online training. KELOLAND
- ➤ The municipal election on June 3 will see Ward 4 candidates outline their approaches to local issues as incumbent Lehmann, a business owner, and challenger Three Stars, a community advocate, share their plans on crime, homelessness, housing and infrastructure. Lehmann will continue his work in North Rapid while Three Stars will focus on affordable housing, mental health and youth outreach — topics that matter to residents. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ The South Dakota Highway Patrol is urging all travelers to make safety a top priority during Memorial Day weekend—troopers are out enforcing key rules like obeying speed limits, buckling up, and avoiding distractions as traffic increases from Friday, May 23rd through Monday, May 26th. KBHB
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ In girls softball on Thursday, Sturgis lost two games to Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Washington with scores of 9 to 4 and 14 to 0 while Spearfish fell to the same teams 17 to 2 and 9 to 6, and Rapid City Stevens won by defeating Brandon Valley 8 to 3 and O’Gorman 12 to 8. Today, all three teams will play new matchups — Spearfish and Sturgis are set to face Brandon Valley and O’Gorman while Stevens takes on Washington and Roosevelt. KBHB
- ➤ Area athletes competed on May 22nd at the Last Chance Track and Field meet as they aimed to secure spots for next week's state meet—Sturgis' Ty Petrocco won the 3,200 meters while Rapid City Stevens' Jack Day won the 110 meter hurdles, and Stevens captured wins in the boys relays and field events. On the women's side, Avery Marler won the 100 meters, Ella Bradeen won the 200 meters, and relay victories went to Stevens and Rapid City Central. KBHB
