- ➤ The YMCA of Rapid City announced its 2025 Summer Feeding Program will run from June 2 to Aug. 8 at the Y Café + from June 5 to Aug. 8 at Main Street Square downtown. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Rapid City’s Seventh Circuit CASA received nearly $15,000 from a local joint fund after losing federal grant money—Executive Director Kehala Two Bulls said the donation will help cover background check costs and keep the program running for foster children while they work to appeal for more funds. - ➤ A Pennington County jury found 29-year-old Matthew Hade guilty of aggravated assault in a domestic violence case after he attacked his 19-year-old girlfriend in October 2024—he was on probation in Meade County following a rape conviction. KBHB
- ➤ A 40-year-old man from Box Elder was sentenced to 15 years at the state penitentiary for third-degree rape after sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on a Rapid City bike trail in June 2024—he also received credit for nearly one year served for threatening an officer. KELOLAND

- ➤ The Buffalo Chip announced its 2025 rally lineup including Nickelback, Jason Aldean, Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, ZZ Top, Stone Temple Pilots, Gene Simmons, Hinder, Josh Ross, Citizen Soldier, and Buckcherry, which will perform from August 1 to August 10 at the campgrounds in Sturgis — more acts will be added soon. - ➤ Today, the 15th Annual Art in the Barn Fleece & Fiber Festival opens at the Meade County Fair Building on the fairgrounds—featuring vendors, wool and sheep shows, artisan demonstrations, and fiber classes—and runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; the event continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. KBHB

- ➤ The USDA projects that South Dakota farmers will plant 6.2 million acres of corn and 5.1 million acres of soybeans this year as market conditions favor corn over soybeans. Early planting and steady rainfall have boosted progress—farmers will monitor trade talks for future market impacts. KELOLAND
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A coalition of healthcare providers, patient advocates, rural leaders and small business owners launched Hands Off Medicaid—South Dakota to oppose proposed federal cuts that could remove coverage from nearly 27,000 people and harm rural hospital funding. The group urged South Dakotans to contact Senators Mike Rounds and John Thune as the budget bill moves to the U.S. Senate. KELOLAND
- ➤ Thursday morning, a Swearingen Metroliner turboprop was towed along Radar Hill Road to Rapid City Regional Airport, drawing local attention. Airport staff used a crane to lift the plane over the fence — the aircraft registered to the US Army Corps will no longer be used for commercial passenger travel. KBHB
