- ➤ A California man was sentenced to eight years in prison for scamming a Lawrence County couple and ordered to pay $325,000 in restitution. Rapid City Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new Remembering The Children Memorial sculpture stands across the street from Oyate Health Center, built on the site of the former Rapid City Indian Boarding School, though the area is not open yet. The centerpiece, titled Tiwahe, marks nearly a decade of planning and local collaboration by artist Dale Lamphere and community elders—public events will be held in the future. KELOLAND
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rapid City Area Schools’ Area 6 candidates say miscommunication over the Summerset polling location may affect the vote outcome — they warn that unclear polling instructions could change the election results. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ The Summerset polling site is set at the Black Hawk Fire Station (6010 Peaceful Pines Road) where local voters will cast their ballots. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ On Monday, Rapid City Council denied American Legion Post 22’s request to serve alcohol at the Firecracker Baseball Tournament—citing concerns over alcohol sales at youth sporting events. Post 22 leaders argued that the sales helped fund their event, but the council voted 6—3 to deny the permit. KBHB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The South Dakota Department of Health reported the first measles case of 2025 today when a man in Meade County developed the infection after returning from international travel. Health experts advise checking immunization records (the first vaccine dose gives about 93 percent protection) as measles is highly contagious. KELOLAND
