  • Residents in Star Village have faced high crime, broken plumbing, and neglected maintenance, forcing the community to act. Community meetings, prayer walks, cleanups and police efforts to secure a community space at 1614 Kellogg Drive — a step toward restoring safe living conditions — show continued local resolve.  Rapid City Journal

  • Rapid City Fire Department crews responded to a house fire in the 200 block of East Idaho Street at 9:45 p.m.—rescuing one person from the structure.  Rapid City Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, Sacred Storm Buffalo is launching its new bison meat market and store at 1601 Haines Ave in Rapid City, with a 10 a.m. ceremony featuring prayer, drumming, and elder remarks—customers can buy fresh bison meat processed at their local facility and sample items from the on-site food truck.  Rapid City Journal
  • Today, Sacred Storm Buffalo—an Indigenous nonprofit—opens its new retail store at 1601 Haines Ave in Rapid City where customers can buy fresh buffalo meat and Pretty Pink Buffalo skin care products made from local buffalo tallow. The grand opening runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature a prayer circle, drumming, and a food truck serving local favorites.  Rapid City Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Barrera, 18, was arrested in Rapid City by the U.S. Marshal Service on Wednesday for the shooting death of a 23-year-old man from Grass Mountain - he is held at the Pennington County Jail as investigators seek further leads.  KELOLAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota had the nation’s lowest jobless rate at 1.8 percent in April according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and it added hundreds of workers in tourism, construction and business services while neighboring states reported higher rates.  KBHB

  • Rapid City Area Schools announced a plan to reduce bus stops and raise bus driver pay after revealing a driver shortage during a recent school board meeting—changes that will be put in place soon following a long investigation into transportation challenges.  Rapid City Journal
