ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A structure fire on the 200 block of E Idaho Street resulted in one person being rescued last night at 9:45 p.m.—firefighters later extinguished the blaze and confirmed no other victims were inside.  KBHB
  • The Johnson Siding and Whispering Pine fire departments responded to a truck rollover on Friday morning on a gravel road delayed by the Highway 385 reconstruction between Highway 44 and Sheridan Lake Road—two truck occupants were involved but no serious injuries were reported.  KBHB

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal judge sentenced Rapid City man Guillermo Calderon to 25 years in prison for leading a meth trafficking conspiracy linked to a Mexican drug cartel—he pleaded guilty in March and was arrested in January 2024 for allegedly transporting 20 pounds of meth into the area.  KELOLAND
  • Pennington County Sheriff's Office is searching for an 80-year-old man—last seen in Rapid City—whose whereabouts remain unknown.  Rapid City Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A portion of Flume Trail will close Monday for multi-week tree maintenance work—officials say the repairs are expected to improve safety and help preserve the trail.  Rapid City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vietnam War veteran John Marso, who saved down pilots amid gunfire — now helping fellow veterans — joined a protest in Rapid City against planned VA cuts.  Rapid City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Dakota Department of Health said that an individual—the state's second confirmed measles case—visited two public places in Rapid City, potentially exposing people at Sam’s Club on June 1 from 12 pm to 6 pm and at Dakota Premier Medical Clinic on June 2 from 11:15 am to 3:45 pm. People who visited these locations are advised to monitor for measles symptoms for 21 days and contact their healthcare provider if they are not immune.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, the Veterans Classic Baseball Tournament took place at Pete Lien Field and the Sturgis Titans lost 10-2 to Sheridan while Rapid City Post 22 won 5-0 over Laramie and 3-2 over Pierre—extending their winning streak to 12 games. Rapid City Post 320 Stars also claimed wins with a 15-4 victory over Gerring and a 12-1 win over Cody, and the Post 22 18U team moved to 2-0 after beating Scottsbluff.  KBHB
  • On Friday the Spearfish Sasquatch defeated the Fremont Moo iLB 2—0 when three pitchers combined for a shutout—Evan Luke, Jackson Peters, and Hudson Hart struck out nine while Fremont Moo iLB recorded 11 strikeouts.  KBHB
