CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rapid City is hosting its third annual Two-Spirit Powwow to celebrate togetherness among community members who honor indigenous traditions. Organizers plan a day of cultural events that highlight traditional art and heritage. Rapid City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota teachers' pay reached a new high of $56,328 in 2023-24 with a $3,175 increase from last year, placing the state 46th nationally while marking the 11th best six percent raise across the nation. The Teacher Compensation Review Board—now chaired by Education Secretary Joe Graves—will meet two more times this summer to report to the governor and Legislature. KELOLAND
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local governments in South Dakota will soon use a new, encrypted email system built by Dakota State University’s SecureSD project. The program—funded in 2024 through SB 187—was designed to boost cybersecurity by providing cities and counties with better training and resources. KELOLAND
- ➤ South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks now proposes fees for controlled-access parts of its 400+ acre shooting complex near Rapid City after promising free public use for some ranges. The commission will take public comments at a hearing on July 10 at 2 p.m. in Yankton and decide on the charges at its meeting from July 10-11. KBHB

- ➤ Sturgis Titans will play Belle Fourche at 6:00 p.m. tonight at Strong Field in the Sturgis Baseball Classic championship — they won Sunday games 11-5 over Wheatland and 12-2 over Belle Fourche — while Rapid City Post 320 lost two games to Billings and Post 22 won one game and lost another. KBHB
