CRIME NEWS

  • Rapid City man Garrett Otto, 29, accused of stabbing two people + assaulting another near the I-190 bridge, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Seventh Circuit Court on Tuesday and faces up to 25 years on attempted murder + 15 years on aggravated assault with his next court date scheduled for July 15.  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rapid City Area Schools announced an expansion of its partnership with Discovery Education that adds digital learning tools for science instruction in grades six to eight and social studies in grades nine to twelve for the upcoming school year — the new resources include Discovery Education Experience and Science Techbook products that meet state standards.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rapid City Council voted 7—2 on Monday night to raise council pay by about 67% from $12,928.57 to $21,582.50, effective July 1, to keep up with inflation and a growing population. The measure also sets a formula for future wage adjustments for both council members and the mayor based on the same inflation index.  Rapid City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Dakota Department of Health confirmed two new measles cases that raised the total to four after one patient visited the Rapid City Medical Center Urgent Care on June 10. The department has set up statewide MMR clinics—Rapid City will hold its clinic on July 9 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. while other locations are scheduled later this month.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • The USTA National Trampoline and Tumbling competitions are underway in Rapid City this week. The event will run through Friday at the Summit Arena and feature 1,650 athletes from 122 clubs competing across age divisions — from beginner to elite levels.  KELOLAND
