ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the Rapid City Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 60 block of Saint Charles Street; firefighters quickly contained the blaze while managing a downed power line and securing both the main residence and a detached garage—no one was home and three animals escaped safely. - ➤ A group of hikers were rescued Monday night at Hippie Hole in the Black Hills after one hiker broke his wrist when his group got turned around+ Rockerville VFD, Keystone Ambulance and Pennington County Search and Rescue reached him by 9:50 p.m.+ rescuers used a rope system and stokes basket to extract him safely by 11:30 p.m. KELOLAND
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Allegiant celebrated 20 years of service at Rapid City Regional Airport by flying over 1.3 million passengers since 2005 and offering affordable nonstop travel for local families. The airport hosted a ceremony that included a water salute by the Rapid City Fire Department (Station 8) and served cake and cookies to mark the milestone. KBHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, five new council members—Stephen Tamang, Bill Evans, Greg Strommen, Lance Lehmann and Callie Meyer—were sworn in for three-year terms at Rapid City's meeting, with Finance Director Daniel Ainslie administering the oaths while returning members began their term with one year left. The council later chose Rod Pettigrew as president and Evans as vice president, and Mayor Jason Salamun recognized outgoing members Pat Roseland and Jesse Ham for their service. KBHB
- ➤ The City of Rapid City issued 234 building permits in June valued at over $33 million, the fourth highest total for this month and nearly $20 million more than in June 2024. Since the beginning of 2025, officials approved 1,153 permits totaling more than $161.5 million—reflecting a notable rise from last year. KBHB
