ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A boat exploded on Sheridan Lake on July 13 just before noon—smoke reached 100 feet high and flames set the water on fire while responders towed the burning boat to shore and no one was hurt. KBHB
- ➤ A Piper PA-25 Pawnee crashed while towing a Schweizer SGS 1-26 glider near Hot Springs Municipal Airport, killing one and injuring another—officials said the NTSB is scheduled to begin its investigation Sunday. KBHB
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Captain 11’s blue jumpsuit—loaned from the South Dakota State Historical Society—was moved from the Sioux Falls studio back to the museum in Pierre Monday night for long-term storage to protect it from light. Dave Dedrick, who wore the suit on TV for over 40 years, said the move preserves the legacy of the show for future viewers. KELOLAND
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In Wall, local officials and developers are teaming with state agencies to build new homes to boost the economy—plans include clearing land and using a $1.2 million loan to begin the Echo Valley subdivision for 24 homes, 15 of which will be affordable. The town faces a housing shortage that makes it hard for workers and business owners to live close by, so the effort is a key step to encourage growth. South Dakota News Watch
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rapid City Public Works and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officials said algae, fueled by hot weather and lawn fertilizer, caused a partial fish kill at Memorial Park Lake on Saturday. City tests showed oxygen levels near (3 ppm) and crews will continue cleaning up fish carcasses while testing for ammonia and E. coli. KBHB

- ➤ The U.S. Air Force plans to expand the Powder River Training Complex—spanning North and South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming—to support new training needs for B-1 and B-52 crews, while public meetings will be held from July 28 through Aug. 14, including a session in Rapid City. The public scoping period runs through Sept. 9. KBHB
