CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man aged 30 was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Rapid City after driving drunk, hitting a tree, and reversing his car into a police cruiser—officers identified him as Levi Muldrow and charged him with DUI, improper lane change, and failure to stop for an emergency vehicle. KBHB
- ➤ Turner Heinbaugh, a 35-year-old man from Belle Fourche, was sentenced on July 14 to 12 years and 7 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $100 assessment after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering linked to a methamphetamine operation in the Black Hills—he was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. - ➤ Two Bennett County ranchers—Leland Pauly, 60, and Lynda Frost, 56—were sentenced to 15 days in jail after a court found them guilty of neglecting cattle and attempting illegal sales near Martin following a complaint by rancher Dan Schilling, who said the cattle were malnourished from poor feed. - ➤ Rapid City police arrested Camden Young early Saturday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun at staff at a Taco Bell drive through on E. Stumer Road, and he faces charges including D.U.I. + aggravated assault, possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, felony with a firearm, open container in a motor vehicle, and improper lane change with no injuries reported. - ➤ Sturgis will host the Budweiser Clydesdales during the 85th City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally when a team of horses and a beer wagon will parade on city property and travel down First and Main Street on Friday, Aug. 1— a single horse with its handler will appear on Tuesday, Aug. 5 for Military Appreciation Day. - ➤ The Rapid City Journal is partnering with the Veterans Honor Banner Project and the America 250 Project to share local stories about World War II heroes on Honor banners around Rapid City this Saturday. One story honors William H. Miller of the 36 Texas Infantry Division who fought in Europe and earned awards—his service is remembered by the community. Rapid City Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Average gasoline prices in South Dakota fell 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week and now average $2.91 per gallon today — a GasBuddy survey of 628 stations shows prices are 6.9 cents lower than a month ago and 25.5 cents lower than a year ago. The survey also found station prices ranged from $2.49 to $3.61 per gallon. KBHB

- ➤ South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden supported a federal plan that will stop Chinese groups from buying farmland to protect local farms — a step meant to keep food safe. He joined other America First Governors and federal officials in a plan where USDA will check foreign land deals — the effort is designed to boost national security as the plan is put in place. KBHB
