- ➤ South Dakota's rural areas show a cyclic pattern where people leave for jobs in cities and then return for family and a slower pace of life. - ➤ Recent rain helped ease dryness, yet most rangelands show lower moisture and forage production. Experts urge farmers to let pastures rest before re-grazing + adjust grazing plans to protect soil cover for fall recharge. KBHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Dakota Department of Transportation announced it will install temporary traffic signals at key intersections from July 25 to Aug. 11 to manage higher traffic from the 85th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, scheduled for Aug. 1 to Aug. 10. The agency will also reduce speed limits on Interstate 90, Highway 34 and Highway 79 from July 31 to Aug. 10 — measures planned to improve road safety during the event. KBHB
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Meade County Commission approved vacating a section line to allow Infinity Properties LLC to build an airfield for a new 51-lot housing development north of Rapid City. The commission also approved a 66-foot public access easement to protect drainage and guide project design amid local concerns. KBHB
- ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden ordered that flags will be flown at half-staff at the Capitol from sunrise to sunset on Saturday to honor former legislator Mike Diedrich — an attorney from Rapid City who served in both the state Senate and House. KELOLAND
- ➤ Rapid City may soon see three big chain restaurants—Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, and Panda Express—if city leaders approve a north side financing district today. The plan will also help pay for a new police station and other public improvements and moves to more votes on July 30 and August 4. KELOLAND

- ➤ Hope Grismer, 23, broke the record for the fastest run across South Dakota by completing a 430-mile route in 9 days, 8 hours and 39 minutes from July 7 to July 16—almost a day faster than the previous time. She raised $6,075 for Feeding South Dakota—helping the nonprofit buy over 18,000 meals—and then moved to Chicago to begin medical school. KELOLAND
