Good morning, Rapid City. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 26th of July.

CRIME NEWS

  • Pennington County Sheriff’s Office data shows a 40% drop in violent crimes — including assault, arson, burglary, homicide, robbery and sexual assault — even as naloxone use rose and deputies made more vehicle stops with increased DUI arrests.  KBHB
  • Two Rapid City residents, Terrell Arthur Wilkins (41) and Leannah Raine Vitalis (27), were arrested Wednesday after a highway patrol traffic stop led to a seizure of 126.9 grams of cocaine, about 100 counterfeit oxycodone pills with fentanyl, 6.6 grams of MDMA and 0.3 ounce of marijuana, and they now face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges at Pennington Country Jail.  KELOLAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rancher Calli Williams of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association said beef prices hit over six dollars per pound in June due to shrinking cattle herds, yet shoppers still choose beef for meals today. Williams noted that an online tool on the Beef It’s What’s for Dinner website helps buyers select budget-friendly cuts — and recent rains may boost cattle numbers in the next two years.  KELOLAND
  • South Dakota is building new hemp processing centers that plan to turn hemp into products such as animal bedding and building materials while taking carbon from the air. Advocates say easing tough testing and improving supply chains can bring jobs to small towns—though more growers and investors are needed to meet this goal.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Air Force Colonel Erick Lord will take command of Ellsworth Air Force Base’s 28th Bomb Wing later this month. He was the author of a report that blamed the bomber squadron’s culture for safety problems after a B-1B crashed — a report that led to leadership changes.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Sturgis Titans ended their summer legion season with a 5-1 loss on Wednesday night and a 12-0 defeat on Thursday as Yankton won the best-of-three series. Yankton moved to the state tournament—joining Rapid City Post 22 and Rapid City Post 320 in the competition.  KBHB

Maximize Space and Stay Organized with Compression Packing Cubes

Don’t overlook compression packing cubes for your next trip — they’re a simple but transformative travel essential. Designed to compress clothing and maximize space, these cubes help you fit twice as much into your suitcase without the bulk.

Beyond just saving space, compression packing cubes keep your luggage neat and organized. Group your outfits by day or category, separate clean and dirty clothes, or designate cubes for different family members when traveling together. No more rummaging through your suitcase — everything stays in its place, easily accessible when you need it.

Lightweight and durable, these cubes are ideal for carry-ons and checked bags alike. They also help prevent overpacking by limiting how much you can fit in each cube. Once you try them, you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them.
