ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Rapid City Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of East College Avenue at 5:00 p.m. Friday—firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control with no injuries reported while investigators continue to check the cause.  KELOLAND
  • A crash—where four motorcycles collided near Mt. Rushmore on Saturday morning—left one person dead and four injured, the sheriff’s office said while urging drivers to slow down due to heavier traffic from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  KELOLAND

CRIME NEWS

  • On day one of the Sturgis Rally, police made 5 felony drug arrests, 8 misdemeanor drug arrests, issued 10 parking citations, and made 15 arrests not related to traffic and 9 for traffic from 194 calls while Meade County Sheriff’s Office handled 186 calls, 66 traffic stops, 8 DUI arrests, 2 injury crashes, and booked 34 people plus noted rising cases of intoxicated scooter riding.  KBHB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Badlands National Park rangers discovered an abandoned campsite in the Badlands Wilderness Area with trash, soaked sleeping bags, and food waste that could harm local wildlife. They warned visitors to pack in what they pack out + follow proper waste disposal rules to protect nature.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson took full responsibility for releasing sensitive voter data after her office mistakenly published a spreadsheet that labeled 7,186 residents as having registered at public assistance agencies—she said the data was removed immediately and affected individuals will be notified by mail. The office also said county auditors have been contacted and urged anyone who downloaded the file to delete their copies.  KBHB
