COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The South Dakota Department of Transportation said that 311,764 vehicles entered the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally through Tuesday—this total is an 11% increase over the five-year average while Tuesday alone saw 63,863 vehicles, a 13% rise.  KELOLAND

CRIME NEWS

  • Rapid City police responded Tuesday to two stolen vehicle cases—one call in Rushmore Crossing led to the arrest of 35-year-old Richardblakey after a Buick LeSabre was found in Box Elder while he was huffing air duster, and another call at 518 Main Street reported a Jeep SUV missing with its key and a loaded handgun left inside.  KELOLAND
  • Attorney General Marty Jackley warned that a texting scam falsely using the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is targeting residents after a Connecticut man received a call from someone claiming to be Sergeant Walker who demanded $1,000 because he had texted with a person on a dating site—legitimate law enforcement never demands money or threatens arrest.  KBHB

  • Rapid City Council unanimously approved the voluntary land annexation requested by property owners today + the decision will support better city planning in future growth areas.  Rapid City Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Jackpine Gypsies Short Track I in Sturgis on August 5th, Mission AFT SuperTwins rider Briar Bauman won his sixth race of the season by outdueling Dallas Daniels & Brandon Robinson, and he now leads the championship by eight points. In separate events, Progressive AFT Singles saw Chase Saathoff take the win while AFT AdventureTrackers produced a victory for Jesse Janisch after a tight race with Dan Bromley.  KBHB
  • At the Sturgis motorcycle rally on August 5, 2025, Brandon Robinson won his first race on the Harley-Davidson XG750R at the Jackpine Gypsies Short Track II after a collision between championship rivals forced a red flag and restart. Dallas Daniels finished fifth, ending his 23-race podium streak — while Briar Bauman expanded his championship lead.  KBHB
  • Black Hills State University named Sadie Bacon as its new volleyball assistant coach after she finished playing at Eastern Washington University + Head Coach Grayson DuBose said her hire is his first staff appointment and she will soon begin her coaching career, helping the team improve both on the court and off it.  KBHB
