- ➤ The Rapid City Police Department is teaming up for the fourth year with Mahpiya Luta High School Senior Cody Two Bulls to collect school supplies for students in need—ensuring that all donations go directly into backpacks. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Highway Patrol reported two fatal motorcycle crashes—one on Sunday where a 28-year-old rider fled a police stop and another on Thursday when a 23-year-old motorcyclist struck a turning vehicle on Highway 44. The patrol also noted nine injury crashes—one involving a rider in life-threatening condition. KBHB

- ➤ The Meade County Sheriff's Office reported 152 calls for service on Thursday with deputies making 73 traffic stops, 7 DUI arrests, and executing 4 drug arrests that led to 40 bookings in jail, and Sheriff West credited deputies, dispatchers, and jail staff—working as one team—with managing the busy rally week. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Rapid City is inviting local business and property owners to apply to fill a five-member board for the new Mount Rushmore Road Business Improvement District — with two members serving two-year terms and three serving one-year terms. Applicants must submit a Citizens Interest Application online by Thursday, August 14 at 5 p.m. KBHB
- ➤ Starting Tuesday, Aug. 12th, U.S. Highway 385 from Sheridan Lake Road to Be Still Road near Hill City will be closed to through traffic for a construction project and will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 2nd. The closure will keep the intersection at Sheridan Lake Road open and drivers are advised to use the posted detour via Highway 44 and U.S. Highway 16. KBHB
- ➤ Recent census data shows nearly half of South Dakota’s 920,000 residents now live in the Sioux Falls and Rapid City metro areas, with Rapid City adding about 10,000 people since 2020 + city officials stress that improved infrastructure planning is needed to support continued growth. - ➤ Matthew Wolford, a veteran from Northern California, stopped in Sturgis this week during his ongoing 16,000-mile motorcycle ride to honor his late grandfather and raise awareness for veteran suicide — he began his journey on May 29 and carries his grandfather’s ashes in his saddle bags while sharing his story on YouTube and social media.
