COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A local teen+the Rapid City Police Department led an effort Friday at Walmart that collected about 400 backpacks for school supplies. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Forty South Dakota organizations formed the Healthy Nutrition Collaborative to fight food insecurity by joining forces amid reduced government support. The group, including Feeding South Dakota and Bread Break (planning a Rapid City expansion), works to share resources and education to help those in need. KELOLAND
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Highway Patrol reported three injury crashes during the Sturgis Rally — a Jeep left the road on US 16 at 6:17 a.m. with its driver taken to Rapid Monument, a 2024 Harley Davidson slid on US 14A near mile marker 49 at 8:22 a.m. with its rider taken to Monument Health, and a 2022 Harley Davidson hit a deer near mile marker 51 at 10:50 p.m. leaving both riders with minor injuries — amid the event's overall traffic concerns. - ➤ Longtime allies Sen. Arch Beal and Rep. Mike Derby formed a political action committee called Strong Safe & Free (named from the governor’s slogan) to back Gov. Larry Rhoden’s potential run in 2026. Gov. Rhoden, who is on his Open for Opportunity Tour (a series of stops to show his work), said he will decide after the tour while he continues to serve the people. KBHB
