COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SD DOT reported that 537,459 vehicles have entered the 85th Anniversary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, marking an 11% increase over the five-year average. City officials note the count does not represent unique visitors since vehicles may re-enter — it is one measure among several used to gauge overall travel activity.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rapid City Area Schools announced a major transportation overhaul that removes over 100 bus stops for the 2025 to 2026 school year—after months of study and community feedback—and will improve safety while reducing route cancellations.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Rapid City’s Utility Maintenance Division begins repairs on a water line in the southbound lanes of Fifth Street near Cathedral Drive.  Rapid City Journal
  • South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is leading a bipartisan group of 11 state attorneys general to ask a court to stop beef processors from using the 'Product of USA' label on foreign-sourced beef that misleads consumers. The attorneys general filed an amicus brief showing that the USDA admitted the labeling error—protecting local ranchers and quality beef production.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Team Black swept Team Red in two games at the American Legion All-Star Baseball games on Aug. 11, winning the opener 5-3 and the second game 10-6. Key players like Tad Tjaden and Isaac Brown led the wins while Rapid City Post 22's Jadon Moreno took the loss.  KBHB
  • The PRCA Xtreme Broncs Finals will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17 at the Central States Fair in Rapid City—bringing together the top 12 saddle bronc riders from the PRCA and Xtreme Broncs Tour. Reigning champion Wyatt Casper will try to defend his title—he set a record last year with a $33,644 win.  KBHB
