- ➤ Joe Griffin, the new CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions, sent letters on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 to Iowa landowners, promising a new easement proposal for those who had not signed and thanking those who had. He said the company will soon update its carbon pipeline project even though South Dakota has rejected permits and banned eminent domain for such projects—pushing the company to work in a new way. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ten inmates from the South Dakota Department of Correction will be transferred to ICE custody for deportation after the South Dakota Board of Pardons and Paroles approved the move on Wednesday—part of Operation Prairie Thunder aimed at keeping them out of local communities. KELOLAND
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers are tightening rules for kratom — a herbal supplement used for pain relief and opioid withdrawal — as seven states, including South Dakota, consider bills to add age limits, proper labeling, and bans on synthetic forms like 7-OH. The FDA pushed to ban 7-OH last month, and the DEA will soon review the proposal to protect public health. KBHB
