🚨 Crime
Rapid City Police arrested 23-year-old Bellminion Trujillo early Thursday when they responded to reports of gunshots in the 700 block of E Anamosa Street — after interviewing witnesses and finding shell casings at an apartment, he was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm while intoxicated and reckless discharge of the weapon, with no injuries reported.
Police responded around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a person being stabbed at Aspen Park Apartments—suspect remains unidentified.
Lawrence County and Crook County Sheriff’s Offices are searching for a 65-year-old man from St Onge who has been missing since Monday, August 18 after his vehicle was found near the South Dakota—Wyoming border and several agencies joined the ongoing search.
🏛️ Government
On August 21, the Rapid City Planning Commission approved tax increment financing districts for Libertyland USA and the Catalyst District—one supporting a $125 million theme park and the other partially funding a $55 million sports complex with additional infrastructure improvements. The projects will move to the Legal and Finance Committee on August 27 and to City Council on September 2 for further review.
South Dakota Public Broadcasting announced it will lay off 15 employees and cut local programming—including the radio show In the Moment and the TV program South Dakota Focus—because a $2.2 million funding shortfall and a federal rescission package have forced these difficult choices with layoffs set to begin Oct. 31. The broadcaster said it will maintain its transmitters to serve nearly all of South Dakota while working with community partners and Congress to secure emergency funds.
