  • Pejuta Waste O’Tipi | Good Medicine Lodge is calling for donations of warm clothes, food, and hygiene kits as it prepares for a long, cold winter. The center at 522 Anamosa Street on the Woyatan campus also needs volunteers for meal service and daily care — a local effort to help unsheltered relatives before winter sets in.  Native Sun News

CRIME NEWS

  • Rapid City Police identified 29-year-old Monte Gakin as the victim of a Wednesday night shooting — detectives and agents from RCPD, PCSO, and SD DCI are following up with witnesses and processing forensic evidence.  KBHB
  • Rapid City Police said on August 28th at around 5:30 p.m. near 5 Knollwood Drive that during a road rage incident on E. Knollwood Drive—a man named Nathaniel Stabber fired a gunshot at a pickup truck, damaging it while no one was injured, and he complied when ordered to drop his handgun before being arrested for Aggravated Assault and Discharge of a Firearm at a Motor Vehicle and taken to Pennington County Jail.  KBHB
  • A man wanted in connection to his father's death was detained today at a Rapid City auto shop—an employee said they witnessed the detainment.  Rapid City Journal
  • A 30-year-old suspect, Nicholas Selig, wanted for the homicide of Vernon Selig, was spotted on the 1200 block of Jackson Boulevard in Rapid City and taken into custody—he will be questioned as investigators continue their probe.  KELOLAND
  • A multi-agency task force arrested James William Reese, a 61-year-old from Hot Springs, on July 17 in Oglala Lakota County for alleged drug trafficking—seizing 212.5 grams of methamphetamine and charging him with multiple offenses with a court date set on August 28.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Libertyland USA and the Catalyst District sports complex were approved by the Legal and Finance Committee and will go before City Council on September 2 for final approval—this step marks their continued progress in the review process.  Rapid City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Dakota Hands & Voices launched Guide By Your Side this summer to pair trained parent guides with families who just learned about their child's hearing loss — the service is free and supports parents through early challenges.
