CRIME NEWS

  • Rapid City police are investigating a road rage incident from Thursday when Nathaniel Stabber fired a gunshot near Knollwood Drive while pointing his handgun at a pickup truck—no one was injured and he now faces charges of aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm at a motor vehicle.  KELOLAND
  • A 21-year-old Sturgis man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder when he fired three shots at a police center and two at an officer—he caused hearing damage and emotional trauma and was ordered to pay over $12,800 in restitution.  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rapid City Stevens High School seniors Sakurako Tinant and Arabella Scott received South Dakota Seals of Biliteracy at a school ceremony on Thursday, marking RCAS’s first year offering the program while alumna Olivia Miller had already earned her seal. The seals honor proficiency in English and another language—Japanese for Tinant and Spanish for Scott—and are part of a state initiative launched last year to recognize biliteracy.  Rapid City Journal

  • Monument Health will open its new Rapid Valley Clinic and Urgent Care Sept. 2 at 2526 Elderberry Blvd—this facility will offer primary care weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and urgent care daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to serve local and traveling patients.  Rapid City Journal

  • At the Douglas Early Bird meet held Friday at Prairie Ridge Golf Course, Tate Van Beek of Rapid City Stevens won the boys race in 15:51.25 while Kori Keil of Spearfish won the girls race in 18:55.95—launching a strong start to the new season.  KBHB
