- ➤ Roger Vick enlisted in the Navy at age 15 in April 1944 by convincing recruiters he was older—he passed boot camp in Farragut, Idaho and served on a tank landing ship while facing a Caribbean hurricane and meeting his brother. He was discharged in October 1944, reenlisted in March 1947, finished school in Sioux Falls, and later founded a construction company before retiring and being laid to rest in Hill City. - ➤ Rapid City Stevens principal Jocelyn Hafner apologized to Native American families on Thursday after a team posted a social media photo showing players in Native American dress — the photo was promptly removed — and the school said it will review its practices to ensure such incidents do not happen again. - ➤ A Sturgis man will serve 35 years in prison after shooting a police officer at the Meade County Law Enforcement Center last summer.
