- ➤ The ninth annual Tom Pfeifle Memorial 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at Raider Park in Rapid City with a start time of 9 a.m.—registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the event honors local outdoorsman Tom Pfeifle by raising funds to maintain park trails and facilities near Stevens High School. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On April 9, 2024, a car carrying 20-year-old Jayden Quinn went airborne and crashed into an apartment building—killing two of her friends and risking a gas explosion. Now 22, Quinn returned today to thank the first responders at Rapid City Fire Department Station 1 for saving her life. Rapid City Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Operators at Fort Hays Old West Town said tourist spending fell 20% to 40% this summer as visitors cut back on trips because of inflation and economic uncertainty—businesses across the state faced lower revenues. South Dakota Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen noted that statewide tourism slowed but he expects a busier fall season to help boost earnings. South Dakota News Watch

- ➤ A multi-billion-dollar renovation is underway at Ellsworth Air Force Base just outside Rapid City to prepare for the B-21 Raider, America’s newest stealth bomber. The base is expanding with over three dozen projects such as a new runway and maintenance hangars — pilots will soon arrive for training while the exact deployment date remains classified. KELOLAND

- ➤ Buffalo Plains Recovery opened a new addiction treatment center in Rapid City to help people start their recovery — the center offers 30 day and 90 day programs with staff who share personal struggles and will soon expand to include an outpatient program. KELOLAND
