- ➤ A new study finds that smaller Social Security checks are linked to shorter lives for retirees in rural and reservation areas of South Dakota. The research shows that every $1,000 cut may shorten life by nearly a month and warns that funds could fall short by 2034—further harming vulnerable seniors who depend on these payments. KBHB

- ➤ WalletHub released new ranking data today and placed South Dakota fourth among states with the smallest increases in credit card debt. The report used newly released data to compare credit card debt growth across states. KBHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley launched his campaign for Congress from his hometown of Sturgis Tuesday night at the Loud American—he said he will serve the state with a focus on agriculture as Representative Dusty Johnson’s run for governor in 2026 leaves an open seat. KBHB
- ➤ The American Postal Workers Union launched a television advertising campaign in South Dakota this past summer against federal plans to privatize USPS—union officials warned that the change may force local post office closures, raise postage costs, and reduce mail service in rural communities. Ads have aired on national networks and in select local markets in nine states as part of a national pushback. KBHB
