- ➤ The Salvation Army and local law enforcement hosted their annual Shop with a Cop event — about 50 children from Rapid City and Pine Ridge shopped for new back-to-school outfits on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rapid City Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 60th Governor’s Buffalo Roundup took place yesterday at Custer State Park—drawing visitors to experience local buffalo traditions. Rapid City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Workers are finishing construction on the $20 million Pete Lien — Sons Shooting Sports Complex gun range about 12 miles north of Rapid City that will offer 160 shooting bays and a 10,000 square-foot building and is set to open on Nov. 8. Some neighbors and lawmakers have raised concerns about noise and the use of Future Fund money while over $6.3 million in donations have supported the project’s rapid progress. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Citizens for Liberty turned in 314 petitions with 5,145 signatures on Friday—requesting that the Libertyland Tax Increment Financing District be put to a public vote. The Rapid City Finance Office will verify the signatures and if at least 2,572 are valid, City Council will set a vote date at the October 6 meeting—either at the next annual municipal election or by scheduling a special election.
