- ➤ At the 60th Governors Buffalo Roundup at Custer State Park, over 1,400 bison were gathered for health checks while more than 20,000 visitors watched the event that has drawn crowds for over 60 years—after the checks, a little over 400 bison will be sold at auction while the rest roam the park. - ➤ Five South Dakota high school seniors have received the prestigious Richard Hagen-Minerva Harvey Memorial State Scholarship, which offers financial help for up to four years of college. The award honors American Indian students with strong character and clear goals—two of whom are from Rapid City, Ethan Phelps and Kyra Perkins. KELOLAND

- ➤ South Dakota families and LifeScape officials said proposed state funding cuts may reduce reimbursement rates by 80% for outpatient services and force children with disabilities like Archer to lose needed therapy. A hearing is set on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. (feedback may be offered by phone or in person) to gather opinions on the changes. KBHB
- ➤ Today, Rapid City crews responded at mid-day to an active water line break on Halley Avenue and Monroe Street (impacting water service for about 16 customers). Rapid City Journal
- ➤ SDDOT seeks community input to shape its Statewide Active Transportation Plan to improve safety and connectivity by promoting walking and biking on state highways. Public meeting open houses will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Aberdeen on Oct. 14, Mitchell on Oct. 15, Sioux Falls on Oct. 16, Rapid City on Nov. 4, and Pierre on Nov. 5 — where residents can discuss ideas with planning staff. - ➤ After Rapid City Council approved the Libertyland USA TIF Project, community members turned in a petition with double the 2,500 required signatures — prompting officials to consider a public vote. If the signatures are confirmed by the city finance office, a special election costing up to $100,000 may be held early to mid-November instead of waiting for the June ballot. KELOLAND
- ➤ Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced on social media that 20 soldiers who fought at Wounded Knee in 1890 will keep their Medal of Honor awards—this decision follows a review ordered last summer and comes after the state Senate called for an investigation.
