CULTURE NEWS

  • A couple hundred people gathered at Founders Park in Rapid City on Sept. 28 to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk—shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Organizer Mark Upton said local speakers, including pastor Scott Craig and attendee Logan Brennick, shared their faith and urged church leaders to engage politically.  Rapid City Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota gasoline prices fell by 4.8 cents per gallon to an average of $2.86 today—GasBuddy surveyed 628 stations and prices are 7.6 cents lower than last month and 14.9 cents lower than a year ago.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City’s Finance Office verified 4,326 valid signatures to qualify the resolution for creating the Rapid City Destination (Libertyland) Tax Increment Financing District for a public vote. City Finance Director Daniel Ainslie will add the item to next Monday’s Council agenda so that a special election can be scheduled between mid-November and next June’s municipal election.  KBHB
  • North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley did not file a lawsuit against South Dakota over its ban on eminent domain for carbon pipelines, a decision that affected Summit Carbon Solutions’ project. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley and House Speaker Jon Hansen supported the move—citing its defense of private property rights.  KBHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lakota Nation Invitational volleyball tournament is set for Oct. 3-4 at The Monument at Summit Arena—teams will compete in four pools using a round-robin best-of-three format before moving to a single-elimination round, with play starting at 9 a.m. daily.  KBHB
  • The Rapid City Stevens girls tennis team remained perfect on the season after winning their 20th and 21st matches at the East-West Invite, defeating Sioux Falls Jefferson 7-2 and sweeping Sioux Falls Roosevelt in all matches — their flawless record continues to impress local fans.  KBHB
